Simulation in HydroDyn of the wave with heading direction in range (180,360)

Simulation in HydroDyn of the wave with heading direction in range (180,360)

Hello everyone.

I am simulating the response of TLP FOWT in FAST. HydroDyn requires that WaveDir must be in the range (-180,180]. However, the .3, .12d, .12s file calculated by Wadam is in the wave direction of range [0,360]. So I came across an error when simulating the WaveDir of 210.
Then I change the 0.210000E+03 to -0.15000E+03 in .3 file, since 210 deg is equal to -150 deg.
However, FAST is aborted again, saying that 'minimum wave direction required of -150 is not found in in the .12d file for the first wave direction' and 'maximum wave direction required of -150 is not found in in the .12d file for the second wave direction.
Can I modify the .12d file to realize the simulation of simulation the WaveDir of 210 ? In .3 file, just change the 0.210000E+03 to -0.15000E+03, then it's done. What should I do in .12d file ?

Dear Haoyu.Wu,

Your solution sounds reasonable, but there is a known bug in the wave direction (WaveDir) bounds checking in the second-order WAMIT calculations within HydroDyn (WAMIT2 submodule). See the open issue on OpenFAST: https://github.com/OpenFAST/openfast/issues/9. Unfortunately, I would guess this bug would need to be fixed before you can run this simulation.
