the format of the input file for airfoilprep

Postby Amr.Essam » Wed May 16, 2018 4:27 pm

I am an Undergraduate student in Egypt, working on graduation project on wind energy using Aerodyn. Please forgive my trivial request but I am new to FAST and Airfoilprep
I am struggling now for over a week trying to generate the dat file for the airfoil to be used in Aerodyn.

Can anyone please upload a sample of the airfoil input file to the airfoilprep. "python airfoilprep.py airfoil.dat --extrap 1" what i mean is that part in bold can someone upload a sample for it.

Dear Amr,

I have not used AirfoilPrep.py myself (I'm more familiar with the original AirfoilPrep spreadsheet: https://nwtc.nrel.gov/AirFoilPrep). Regardless, from my brief look at the AirfoilPrep.py documentation, I would guess that the airfoil data file is formatted for compatibility with older versions of AeroDyn e.g. AeroDyn v12-v14. You can find examples of these airfoil data files e.g. in the AeroDyn v14 archive: https://nwtc.nrel.gov/AeroDyn14.

I'm not sure Andrew Ning--the developer of AirfoilPrep.py--regular checks this forum. So, you may want to seek further help through github issues in the AirfoilPrep.py repository: https://github.com/WISDEM/AirfoilPreppy/issues.
