Re: Simulating OC3 phase II coupled springs in FAST v7

Dear Dhaneesh, Are you missing the "CURRENT" section at the bottom of the FAST v7 platform input file, i.e.: ---------------------- CURRENT ------------------------------------------------- 0 CurrMod - Current profile model {0: none=no current, 1: standard, 2: user-defined from routine Use...

Re: Modifying DISCON.dll

Dear Sandra, All you should need to do is recompile the DISCON.dll after changing PC_DbgOut from .FALSE. to .TRUE. in DISCON.f90 . Then running OpenFAST should generate two new files, one named RootName.dbg containing the internal data and one named RootName.dbg2 containing the data in the avrSWAP a...

Re: DTU 10-MW Reference Wind Turbine

Dear Lixian, I'm not familiar enough with the DTU 10-MW reference wind turbine OpenFAST model that you are simulating to comment much, but I don't see that you are referencing the DISCON_IEA_offshore.dll in your ServoDyn input file (instead, you set DLL_FileName = "controller\DTU_10MW_Braceless...

Re: Instructions for Compiling FAST

Dear Dhaneesh, Actually, without changing the source code, it is not possible in FAST v7 to output the hydrodynamic applied loads distributed across the pile. You can output the local pile reaction loads through the local tower load outputs (TwHt1FLxt, TwHt1MLxt, etc. for yt and zt and for gages 2-9...

Re: Instructions for Compiling FAST

Dear Dhaneesh,

I would guess that there is a formatting problem in your platform input file. As with any input file error, I would enable the "Echo" option from the FAST primary input file to debug errors with the input file formatting.

Dear Abhinay, As I announced here: https://wind.nrel.gov/forum/wind/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1001, the http://wind.nrel.gov/public/jjonkman/ site has also been taken down. I've now shared the data via Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1KarMnoKgv7TjqbqzJHqXLZ7aRH7b1VOQ?usp=sharing....

Re: Strip-theory members drag coefficients adjustment

Dear Nicolás, Here are my answers to your questions: Yes, you can obtain the viscous forces generated on the platform from the outputs of the simulation. In a current-only simulation with fixed substructure, the only forces are viscous drag and buoyancy. You can output the viscous drag at the node l...

Re: 10kW wind turbine power curve

Dear Babak, When you say: the rated wind speed for this turbine is 11.5 m/s in which the power should reach maximum 10kW are you referring to a report, measured data, or simulation results? Are you confident that the turbine is being modeled in a way that would give the power curve you are expecting...

Re: Strip-theory members drag coefficients adjustment

Dear Nicolás, If I understand correctly, you are trying to run a FAST simulation where the platform velocity catches up to the current velocity...is that correct? Because of the use of the relative form of Morison's equation in HydroDyn, the current will create a drag force as long as the current ve...

Dear Maryana, MLife supports a user-specified multi-dimensional probability distribution (in place of the simple Weibull wind-speed distribution) through the UserDistrib, nDistribVars, and DistribName inputs in the MLife input file. This is documented a bit in the User_Probability_Distributions.pdf ...

Re: Instructions for Compiling FAST

Dear Dhaneesh, I'm not sure what you mean when you say that "it didn't work". Using CompAero = 0 will eliminate all aerodynamic loads from the model. I have not done this myself, but you should be able to run Seismic in an offshore monopile configuration, with combined wind, wave, and seis...
