Re: FLORIS model selection

Dear Jason, I am very interested in participating in the beta testing of the Deep Array model for FLORIS. I posted a petition in: https://github.com/NREL/floris/discussions , but haven't received any answear. If you could pass the petition on to Paul Fleming, it would be of great help. Thanks in adv...

Re: FLORIS model selection

Good morning, I read in "FLORIS: A Brief Tutorial" that some work is being done regarding Deep-Array effects, which seem to be quite relevant in large offshore wind farms to perform AEP calculations. I would like to know, if possible, if you have an aproximate idea of when you will incorpo...

FLORIS model selection

Hello everyone, I am using FLORIS to make an estimation of the AEP produced by different wind farms, with different wind climates, turbines and layouts. I get significantly different results ( % of AEP loss due to wake) with Jensen and Gauss_legacy velocity models. I'd like to know which velocity de...

Re: Transient turbulent wind

Dear Jason,

I'll try it on my own. In any case, thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

Nicolás

Re: Transient turbulent wind

Dear Jason, Thanks for the reply. Reading the forum you indicated in the answer, I saw that it is possible to concatenate several TurbSim .bts files in a single OpenFAST simulation, but I don't know how to do it. If you can tell me the procedure to do that, or some document where it is explained, it...

Transient turbulent wind

Dear all, I would like to know if it is possible to simulate transient turbulent wind conditions in OpenFAST. I would like to simulate a wind ramp followed by a turbulent wind (ntm) with 44 m/s mean wind speed at hub height. I am running DLC 6.1 with this conditions (without the initial ramp, as I d...

Potential Flow - Strip Theory hybrid model

Dear all, I am trying to make a hybrid Potential Flow and Strip Theory model for a semisub platform in OpenFAST. To this end, I am adding Strip Theory elements to the original Potential Flow model (WAMIT output files) in Hydrodyn, to model viscous effects on the platform. All Strip Theory element co...

Re: FAST.Farm

Dear Nicolás, Can you clarify what you mean by "quantitative results"? What exactly do you want to see? Best regards, I refer to some measure of the differences between time-averaged power outputs between simulations in FAST.Farm and SOWFA (for example, Root Mean Squared Relative Error). ...

Re: FAST.Farm

Dear Jason, I have read the comparison of FAST.Farm simulations against LES. However, there are no quantitative results presented in the comparison. The conclusion is that FAST.Farm predicts "reasonably well" generator power and torque. Do you know if I can access quantitative results from...

Re: FAST.Farm

Dear Jason,

Would you please share the pre-release version of the FAST.Farm software package?

Many thanks in advance. The attention you pay to the forum is very helpful!

Best regards,

Nicolás

Re: FLORIS wake effect simulation

Thank you very much for the reply.

In such a case, to decide whether or not to deactivate GHC, would this asymmetry be observed in a real case with the wind turbine at Yaw = 0º? Or is it a model failure?

FLORIS wake effect simulation

Good afternoon, I am analyzing the loss of yield of a wind farm due to the wake effect. To do this, I am carrying out simulations in FLORIS with parks formed by two turbines to study how the relative position of the upstream turbine decreases the performance of the downstream turbine. I am using the...

Aerodynamic Thrust on the Tower

Good moorning, I would like to know if FAST simulations (with Aerodyn v14) take into account the aerodynamic thrust on the tower, and if so, how it is calculated. I've read conflicting messages on Internet, hence my hesitation. For example, there are people who say that in Aerodyn.dat the TwrShad , ...

Re: Strip-theory members drag coefficients adjustment

Dear Dr.Jonkman, Thank you for the reply. As you say, I am trying to run a FAST simulation where the platform velocity catches up to the current velocity. If I run a current only simulation with the structure fixed, can I obtain the viscous forces generated on the platform from the outputs of the si...

Strip-theory members drag coefficients adjustment

Good afternoon, I am modeling a platform concept in FAST using a hybrid model. I used WAMIT as preprocessor for the Potential Flow Model (.1, .3 and .hst files), and I now want to add strip-theory members so that the current generates viscous drag forces on the platform. To adjust the viscous drag c...
