Re: Simulating the parked turbine

Dear Jason Thanks for your reply. Here are my answers. 1.Yes, the tower-base fore-aft moment, is driven by fore-aft forces 2.My simulation is with turbulence wind. I set analysis time to 630s, I think it is in steady state. And I feel in mean bending moment, the inertia terms has no contribution. 3.W...

Re: Simulating the parked turbine

Dear Jason: I’m running a test of parked 5MW onshore wind turbine. I set the tower’s DOF and blade’s DOF to be “Ture”.It can be seen from the calculation results that the bending moment at the bottom of the tower in the side-side direction is 4200 kN·m and the mean concentrated bending moment at the...

Re: NREL 5-MW reference turbine - CP, CQ, CT Coefficients

Dear Jason,

Thanks again! It turns out I need to do more researches about the theories used by FAST. Your guidence is really useful to me.

Best regards,

Re: NREL 5-MW reference turbine - CP, CQ, CT Coefficients

Dear Jason, Thank you so much for your answer, sir! That had really solved most of my confusions. But there is still one little problem. The red line was exactly caculated by using your method of getting 'RtAeroFxh' from FAST. And still when wind velocity equals 3m/s, the CT is somewhat higher than ...

Aerodynamic Force of Parked WP 1.5 MW

Dear Jason, I got a problem in simulating the parked turbine. I used Test13(WP 1.5 MW). I disabled all DOFs and I also set NacYaw=0,Azimuth=270,BlPitch(1)、(2)、(3)=90. I set WindType=1(steady),HWindSpeed=30. After running, drag force(RtAeroFzh)=-81900N,lift force(RtAeroFxh)=244.9N. I also estimated th...

Re: NREL 5-MW reference turbine - CP, CQ, CT Coefficients

Dear Jason, I have some doubts about thrust of NREL 5MW given in this article [ Definition-of-a-5-MW-reference-wind-turbine-for-offshore-system-development ](Figure 9-1. Steady-state responses as a function of wind speed). I used ORIGIN to obtain the data of RotThrust vs wind speed, and then it was ...

Re: Designing for yaw errors using FAST

Dear jason: I am trying to model a "standstill" OC4 Jacket supported OWT(test21) in OpenFAST with a Vhub=50.83m/s and a yaw misalignment of 30º.WakeMod =0.AFAeroMod=1.turbulence intensity=11%.I have some questions about the result I get, as shown in following pic TTDspFA.png PSD.png PSD2.p...

Re: FAST theory manual

Dear Jason
I'm using the FAST V8,I want to study the theory about FAST,could you also send me the unofficial fast theory?Thank you !

Re: Error running HydroDyn file

Dear Dr.Jason

Thank you very much for your reply. The problem was solved after I used HydroDynDriver_x64.exe.

Re: Error running HydroDyn file

Dear Dr.Jason
Thank you very much for your reply
I used the HydroDyn file in test21 that comes with FAST V8 without modifying any data.
And I just added a driver file when running the Standalone hydrodyn(v2.05.00)

Re: Error running HydroDyn file

Dear Dr.Jason I also had problems running the Standalone Hydrodyn , and I haven't found the cause yet.I hope you can help me with this problem. This Hydrodyn file is NRELOffshrBsline5MW_OC4Jacket_HydroDyn.dat Error is as follows: Running HydroDyn (v2.05.00, 15-Mar-2016). Generating incident wave kin...
