Re: Changing wave direction

Thanks for your quick response Dr.Jonkman.

Having said that, I would be unable to rotate the spar say for 90 degrees as the point of reference is center(0,0) always.I will have to achieve it only by doing WaveDir 90 degrees.

Changing wave direction

Dear Dr.Jonkman Greetings for the day!I have a quick question in OC3 Hydrodyn module. When we say the wave direction is in zero degree , is it modeled as the waves hitting at center of the spar i.e. x=0,y=o. If we imagine spar as circle with center (0,0). [Below are the corresponding lines from hydr...

Changing wind direction

Dear Jason,

Thank you very much for all the guidance for my previous questions.

I would like to change the wind flow direction for a study. I have question like do we need to change it in 'inflow wind' file or in 'turbsim' file.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Allowable heave in FOWT

Yes Dr.Jonkman this 18m surge and -4m heave is for DLC 1.6 (wind dominated case) . And I will have to check the mean heave in static condition.

Re: Allowable heave in FOWT

Dear Dr.Jonkman

These values which am referring are mean surge and mean heave for a particular one hour simulation after getting rid off the initial ten minutes. And also these mean heave values have shifted from positive to negative as I move from lighter to denser chain.

Re: Allowable heave in FOWT

Thank you Dr.Jason that was very informative. Am dealing with surge of about 18m and heave around -4m in a water depth of about 200m.

Are these numbers acceptable for a spar?

Allowable heave in FOWT

Dear sir, Am trying to design mooring line for 200m water depth for OC3 hywind model. Am taking the platform motions for default 320m spar as my target platform motions and changing the mooring line properties accordingly. While doing so I have ended up with a mooring line which is twice heavier tha...

default wind/wave direction

I would like to know the default wind/wave direction with respect to mooring line in OC3 spar FOWT. When we say zero degree wind/wave direction does it mean that both wind and wave is in line with one of mooring line which is aligned with X axis .

Thanks

Re: Youngs modulus of Mooring line

Dear Jason Thanks for your quick response. Am trying to find how the Diam,MassDen and EA are calculated in the default OC3 line file. Youngs modulus of Mooring line

Dear sir Am trying to find the Young's modulus of the mooring line from default OC3 Moordyn values The lines below are from Moordyn: C(6) = {'Name Diam MassDen EA BA/-zeta Can Cat Cdn Cdt'}; C(7) = {'(-) (m) (kg/m) (N) (N-s/-) (-) (-) (-) (-)'}; C(8) = {'main 0.09 77.7066 384.243E6 -0.8 1 0.1 1 0.1'...

Re: Lay length of Mooring line

Thank you Jason and Matt, Your guidance helped a lot . I have a general question related to that . Say for a given Spar (say OC3) with three mooring lines. Does the initial lay length at 0 time step should be same or it does vary depending on the discretization of nodes. Kindly throw some light on t...

Re: Lay length of Mooring line

Am using Moordyn , So can I take the node positions and look at the point till z starts picking up . After which resultant of x and y coordinates till that pick up (typically am assuming it as touchdown) , can this give me lay length of an individual line?
