Simulation error for low turbulent values of wind velocity
Dear Jason, I am performing a batch of aeroelastic simulations under turbulent winds at several hub height average velocities, starting from 5 m/s (5 m/s, 7, 9,11...). With the lower ones, such us 5 m/s I suffer a crash in the simulations when Vx (at hub height) reaches minimum peaks, of about 2 m/s...

Wind turbine does not alineate with incoming wind
Dear Jason, I have been doing some FAST V8 simulations for a SWT based on the SWRT CertTest data and I have encountered some behaviour that I am sure you could send me help about. The turbine is a 3 bladed, with twisted, tapperded 3.22 m long blades, and I have used the tail geometry of the SWRT furl...

Some questions about PreComp
Dear Jason, I have encountered some doubts when using PreComp in order to find sectional properties of an own blade design for the first time. I will number them in order to make it easier for you to answer: 1) Regarding the ply concept, as I am not a native speaker, I dont know if I understand it w...

Better understanding of TipClrnc and non-interference validation
Dear Jason, After understanding the physical significance of the channel Tip-tower clearance (TipClrnc) over the 360º azimuth angle, it is clear that the only interesting region for no interference validation is when the blade points down. My question is, does FAST v8 take into account the thickness...

From BModes output to FAST (Blade file)
Dear Jason, I am currently trying to reproduce in BModes the mode shapes available in FAST v8 CertTest of the SWRT machine in order to learn and be able to define my own baldes' in the future. As you stated in other posts, I have selected the blade sectional properties in order to obtain the uncoupl...

Re: Simple VS implementation into FAST v8
Dear Jason, Thank you again for your rapid answer. I definetely think that the VSContrl=1 will work for my implementation. Considering the region 2, I agree that I will need to set the constant value VS_Rgn2K to obtain a constant TSR and mantain Cp at its optimum value. I know that the transition re...

Simple VS implementation into FAST v8
Dear all, I have performed the aerodynamic design of a SSWT using the steady state BEMT equations stated in AeroDyn Theory Manual and I have then compared my own code results with WT_Perf ones obtaining a very good correlation. The turbine's power control system is VS-FP, so in the WT_Perf model inp...

Re: Viterna polar extrapolation method (alpha_s)
Dear Jason, Regarding the 3d correction for airfoil data I finally wrote an own MATLAB script in which I applied Snel et ali.'s correction model. Now I have also implemented an extrapolation to -180º +180º using the Viterna method and this has created me a doubt: Initially I only applied the 3d corr...
