Re: Difference between Estimated Torque and LSST in NREL Pha

Hi Sir Thank you I have one more doubt, I noticed in Unsteady Aerodynamics Experiment Phase VI: Wind Tunnel Test Configurations and Available Data Campaigns" that estimated torque is based on the equation as attached in the image Can I know why the conventional BEM formula is not used DQ=0.5*de...

Re: Difference between Estimated Torque and LSST in NREL Pha

Dear Sir

Thanks,
But my doubt is what brings the difference in estimated torque from pressure measurements and measured torque at high wind speeds?
I'm sorry for keep on asking it.

Re: Difference between Estimated Torque and LSST in NREL Pha

Dear Sir Thank you But Can I know why there is a difference between estimated torque from integration along the blade span with LSST torque? Since I'm using BEM theory for stall delay, my computed torque from BEM agrees with estimated torque but not with LSST. So there is a considerable difference i...

Difference between Estimated Torque and LSST in NREL Phase 6

Dear Members, I have a doubt what is the difference between estimated torque and LSSTorque. Especially I noticed that at high wind speed there is a huge difference between the value. My BEM results go well with estimated aerodynamic torque but lower than LSST. So the power also goes lower. Can I com...

BEM-S809_Aifoilcharacteristics-Extrapolation-Viterna doubt

Dear members I'm trying to use Viterna method for extrapolating S809 aerofoil characteristics to be used in BEM analysis. I have a doubt in computation of Aspect Ratios In literature I found two definitions, AR= Bladespan^2/Planform area AR=Bladespan/Chord at 80% For that I need Aspect Ratio of NREL...

Re: Two questions concerning the NREL phase VI wind turbine

I'm trying to use WT_Perf seperately for BEM analysis for NREL Phase VI turbine Performance analysis I got following doubts 1) How or where to enter the number of blade segments (Not geometry info of the blade), blade is divided into in WT_Perf? 2) Is it possible to enable 3D corrections ( which is ...

Difference between real time windturbine and wind tunnel CF

I'm doing wind turbine analysis on NREL Phase VI turbine using ANSYS Fluent. So it is based on wind tunnel experiment inwhich blade RPM is fixed. But what about real case, in which rotation of the blade depend on the incoming velocity. It cant generate a fixed RPM. I understood gears might be used t...

Regarding Turbulence Intensity value of NREL Phase VI turb?

Hi I have done CFD analysis of NREL Phase VI turbine. I have doubts regarding Turbulence Intensity inlet and outlet value In some works, it has been mentioned TI for Experimental data is 0.1% and in few has mentioned 0.2%. I can't get information about the outlet (backflow). In general in FLUENT out...

Looking for software for Unsteady BEM analysis, pls suggest

Hi all
i'm Ijaz from Singapore. I need to calculate the pressure distribution at differenet sections using BEM. Generally I have written BEM MATLAB code for steady analysis. But now I need to implement unsteady analysis. Can anyone suggest me a good opensource software for Unsteady BEM analysis.

Rgarding AoA- different wnd sped-along same section in blade

Hi all I have run NREL Phase VI for 7, 10 and 15 m/s. I have compared the pressure cofficients at 30%, 63% and 95%. When I presented the relative velocity magnitude. I got following doubt. At 30% or 63% or anyother sections along the blade span at different speeds, AoA will remain the same or it wil...

Regarding Experimental data comparison with real wind turb

BEM is not good for high speed wind turbine. Why still it is used in Industries? Why cant complete RANS or LES be used to model a wind turbine than BEM? In experiment Wind Turbine is rotated in particular RPM, what about the realwindturbine, does it rotate in same RPM. What is the normal operating w...

Difference between Onshore wind farms and offshore windfarms

I'm new to this forum. I'm a PhD student from NTU, Singapore. My area of research is in modellling hybrid wake modelling in an windfarm. Initially for understanding BEM method and CFD analysis and for validation with experimental results, I used datas from NREL Phase VI turbine. Now I'm trying to wo...
