Re: FAST theory manual

Dear Jason,

thank you for NREL contribution to Wind Energy.
I wonder, could you send me a copy of the latest version of FAST theory manual?

Thank you.
Best regards,

FAST v8.12 Floating WT

Hi all, firstly, thank you for the new and public v8.12 version of FAST, you have worked a lot since previous release! I would like to know if with this new version is it possible to run with a wind direction of 60 degrees (let's say) and wave direction of 80 degrees (let's say) without modifying (r...

BModes units

Hi all,

I have a short question regarding "hydrodynamic" stiffness and added mass matrices used by BModes when is supported by a floating structure. Angle related stiffness/added mass must be expressed in degrees or radians?

Thank you.

MAP version

Hi all, I have a problem trying to make MAP 0.87.06a-mdm ( https://nwtc.nrel.gov/MAP ) work with Python 2.7.x on a Windows Server x64 OS. I type (inside MAP folder): python MAP_start.py example_input.map I receive the next error: import MAP_win32 as MAP # for Windows (32 bit Python module) ImportErr...

Re: FAST error FORRTL

Hi Bonnie,

the problem was due to a mistake in Wamit files, I did not erase these files' titles... That was all!
I apologize for making you waste your time.

Thanks for your help,

FAST error FORRTL

Hi all, I have received an error when analyzing a floating platform using Wamit matrices as input for HydroDyn in FAST v7.02.d The error message: forrtl: severe(59): list-directed I/O syntax error, unit -5, file Internal List-Directed Read Image PC Routine Line Source FAST.exe 0117c670 Unknown Unkno...

Re: FAST - OrcaFlex coupling

Hi Marco, thank you for your indications. I am now using a constant vertical force, forgetting the implementation of the time varying one via Python, as Orcina support suggested me (I contacted them). This "virtual" force application will be solved in OrcaFlex 9.7, so meanwhile I will work...

FAST - OrcaFlex coupling

Good morning, I have some doubts about FAST OrcaFlex coupling. I am using the 64bits code given by Orcina in their website and it is called FASTOrca.exe I also have installed OrcaFlex 9.6c version and everything seems to work allright. But when I try to implement the formula given in: http://www.nre...

Re: Inflow direction and yawDOF

Hello, thank you for your reply. I also thought that changing the wave diretion could be a solution, but it seems quite tedious work because the Wamit matrices that have to be provided to HydroDyn and the mooring definiton should be changed for each value of misalignement between waves and wind. In ...

Re: TurbSim: incorrect flow angle at zero turbulence

Hello, I found the same problems that Stefan had. I have understood the solution but unfortunately it does not work in my case. It seems that AeroDyn continues to look for a *.wnd file and it does not accept the *.bts generated in TurbSim. AeroDyn could not initialize. I am using latest versions of ...

Inflow direction and yawDOF

Hello, this is my first post in this helpfull forum. Thanks a lot for your generous work. I am modeling a floating offshore upwind WT (5 MW reference wind turbine). Normally, waves will come from 0º direction and wind will come from +-45º sector. So I need to set nacelle yaw and wind mean flow horiz...
