Re: Linearization issue using Fast V7.02

Hi,

Could you also plot the controller outputs (pitch and torque) for both cases? It would be helpful to see these in order to understand,

Re: Simulink model of baseline controller

Hi,

The controller is given in Fortran code within the NREL 5MW Reference manual, so it should be possible to more or less directly re-code it into Simulink. I'm not sure if an already completed version exists.

Re: Supervisory Control and fault diagnosis

Hi Ruiliang, This is a pretty big topic area and there is a fair amount of literature. An example of our own fault system is given in: K. E. Johnson and P. A. Fleming, “Development, implementation, and testing of fault detection strategies on the National Wind Technology Center’s Controls Advanced R...

Re: speed control in low speed region

In that case my guess is it is a start-up transient, usually I remove the first 30-60s from a simulation as being a period of time while the transients settle-out,

Re: speed control in low speed region

There could be a couple of reasons for the transient behavior. I mentioned earlier relating torque to the square of rotor speed, did you try this?

Re: speed control in low speed region

Hi,

Torque should be related to rotor speed squared in your formula (see page 26 of manual), does this resolve the issue?

Re: Blade pitch control

Hi,

I think I can help on this. DISCON.DLL should be in the Bladed external controller format already so should be the same. I'm not sure there is defined a pitch actuator for this turbine. A reasonable choice though is probably just a first or second order lag.

Re: Aerogenerator won't give any power

You need to set these parameters: 9999.9 VS_RtGnSp - Rated generator speed for simple variable-speed generator control (HSS side) (rpm) [used only when VSContrl=1] 9999.9 VS_RtTq - Rated generator torque/constant generator torque in Region 3 for simple variable-speed generator control (HSS side) (N-...

Re: Aerogenerator won't give any power

What is the error when vs = 1? I would recommend this option over 0, I'm not too familiar with option 0, but I think it is simulating a type 1 machine or so, such that the generator has a slip curve centered about its rated speed, I would think =1 is a more suitable choice and I think it should be p...

Re: Aerogenerator won't give any power

Hi, based on this, your torque is being set by the user-defined routine: UserVSCont, depending on how FAST was compiled in your case this is either than hard coded, or set to link to an external DLL. If you're using the built-in controller, it is probably defaulting to just setting the torque to 0. ...

Re: Aerogenerator won't give any power

GenTq can be set a number of ways, external controller, default control law, slip curve, can you paste the entire FST file?

Re: Create a wind profile for FAST

You would want to use a hub-height wind file, where you define the wind speed, and sheer at different points in time. Here for example, is the contents of an example file "StepWind.wnd": !Wind file for turbine. !Time Wind Wind Vert. Horiz. Vert. LinV Gust ! Speed Dir Speed Shear Shear Shea...

Re: estimator of effective/relative wind velocity

Hi, When you say you closed the generator DOF, do you mean you switched it to False? This would mean then the rotor speed is now fixed. If the rotor speed is not fixed, then changes in wind speed will cause transients while the rotor speed accelerates/decelerates to a new state, which I think is the...

Re: Wind Speed

Hi Younes, I would say it depends on what you'd like to demonstrate. We very often test in turbulent simulations to gauge the performance of the controller in reducing loads for example. Step tests are helpful for getting a first indication of the controller performance, but usually you need more de...

Re: How to identify OC3-Hywind through control inputs & outp

Hi Mehdi, I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand your question. The papers I had sent documented methods for performing system identification of a wind turbine. They identify system models by exciting the system in some way (pitch or torque excitation) during closed-loop operation (it's dangerous to r...
