NREL Phase VI Wake Measurement Positions

Hello,

I have attached a writeup and associated MATLAB code for the NREL Phase VI Wake Measurement Positions (Sequences 3 and 6). Let me know if you have any corrections/comments.

Problems running Crunch_RegTest.py

See message I get below when running the Crunch test- I think I am giving the correct syntax C:\Apps\Crunch\CertTest>Crunch_RegTest.py win32 Syntax is: Crunch_RegTest.py <ExecType> where <ExecType> is one of: win32, win64, gwin32, or gwin64. Example: Crunch_RegTest.py win32 will execute Crunch_win32...

Re: Damage Equivalent Loads (DEL) from UAE Phase VI data

Do you have a recommendation for getting the UAE data into a format that MLife can use? Thanks.

MLife CertTest

Hello,

mlife_certification_tests seems to missing from the MLife archive. Please advise.

Re: Damage Equivalent Loads (DEL) from UAE Phase VI data

Even though it sounds like a life insurance policy, I will give it a shot. Thanks for the reply!

Damage Equivalent Loads (DEL) from UAE Phase VI data

Greetings,

Would you please inform me on what would be the most efficient method to compute DELs from the UAE Phase VI data. My current approach is to export the data from MATLAB and use Crunch, but if you have a more efficient method please let me know.

Always thankful,
Scott Larwood

FAST- directly controlling rpm

Hello,

Is it possible to directly control the rpm, such as read a file of stepped-rpm inputs? That way I can determine what torque is required for a particular rpm at a particular wind speed.

Thank you for the confirmation and clarification. I'll keep modeling with the puny hub for now!

NREL 5 MW Hub Radius

Hello, I think I just noticed this, but why is the NREL 5 MW hub radius so small? It's at 1.5 m, which compares to the WindPACT 1.5 MW at 1.65 m. I don't recall the size of "real" hub radii, but I recall standing up in many a GE 1.5 with some headroom, which makes it seem around 1.5 m radi...

Re: Airfoilprep extrapolation of CM

Hello, I noticed this jump in the CM for negative values of angle of attack when modeling rotor fragments. I believe this comes from an error in the function GetCM in the table extrapolation for negative angles of attack, which was not following the algorithm mentioned in the AeroDyn manual (Laino 2...

Re: Wind Energy Conference Database

Hi Marshall,

The current database has the ASME wind energy conferences up to a 2005. I expect you can find all the citations after this year on the internet. As stated, we are currently entering the AWEA Windpower and will complete with British Wind conferences. Hope you find it useful.

Wind Energy Conference Database

Since working in the wind industry, I have found many times that someone has worked on a similar problem in the past. Unfortunately, that work was documented in a conference paper that could not be found through typical search engines, such as Compendex. While at working at NREL I made copies of all...
