A Perl Script for Combining Extreme-Event Tables from Multiple Crunch Runs

by Marshall Buhl
National Wind Technology Center

When generating extreme loads for a loads document for a wind turbine, one usually needs to combine extreme loads from short simulations using discrete wind events and long turbulence simulations. Because these types of files have different lengths, you cannot use one Crunch run to process all of them. To make combining the Crunch results a little easier, I created a Perl script called CombEEv to merge the results of multiple Crunch runs. It reads in multiple .eev files generated by Crunch and produces a new file that contains the extremes of the extremes.

To use this script, you will need a Perl interpreter. You can obtain a freeware Perl interpreter from ActiveState.

You may download the following files from our server:

  • CombEEv Change Log (v1.10, 0 KB, 21-June-2004)

This is a list of changes made to the code.  Look at this text file to see if we've made worthwhile changes since you received your previous version of CombEEv.

  • CombEEv User's Guide (v1.1, 51 KB, 21-June-2004)

This is the CombEEv User's Guide.  Please refer to it when trying to understand how the program works.

  • CombEEv Archive (v1.10, 87 KB, 21-June-2004)

This is a self-extracting archive of CombEEv. It includes the CombEEv Perl script, the change log, the user's guide, and sample input and output files.

If you want to refer to the CombEEv website in a report, here is a reference you can use:
