A Perl Script for Running Many IEC Normal-Turbulence Cases

by Marshall Buhl
National Wind Technology Center

When generating a loads document for a wind turbine, you will usually need to run all the IEC design load cases. This can be a daunting task, and doing it one case at a time may lead to errors and inconsistencies.

To make this task a little easier, we've created Perl scripts to automate it for you. One of them, RunIEC, runs all the discrete wind events generated by IECWind. Its companions, RunNTM and CondorNTM, run a series of normal-turbulence-model simulations. RunNTM uses a single computer to run the cases, while CondorNTM will submit each case to a Condor pool for executation on idle computers.

To use RunNTM, you will need TurbSim, FAST, Crunch, and a Perl interpreter. You can obtain a freeware Perl intrepreter from ActiveState.

You may download the following files from our server:

  • RunNTM Change Log (v2.02, 1 KB, 19-November-2002)

This is a list of changes made to the code.  Look at this text file to see if we've made worthwhile changes since you received your previous version of RunNTM.

  • RunNTM User's Guide (v2.0, 26 KB, 19-June-2001)

This is the RunNTM User's Guide.  It explains what RunNTM does and how you can use it.  It is also included in the archive.

  • RunNTM Archive (v2.02, 91 KB, 19-November-2002)

This is a self-extracting archive of RunNTM for PCs. It includes the RunNTM Perl scripts, the change log, the user's guide, and sample input files.

If you want to refer to the RunNTM website in a report, here is a reference you can use:
